Livigno
The most popular ski resort in Alta Valtellina Livigno is known mostly because of its famous ‘duty-free’ zone , but it does not mean that ski conditions are of any quality, but the best.
Livigno is located at the altitude over 1 800 m , and the buildings of nearby Trepalle ( which literaly means tree balls) are based up to 2 209 m a.s.l. which makes Trepalle the highest village in Europe. The highest ski runs here touch the level of 3 000 m which means good snow conditions for most of the year, but also some problems with roads leading to Livigno which may be blocked temporary due to heavy snowfalls, ( not all of them at the same time but the small detour may be sometimes necessary to reach the town ).
Livigno lies in a small valley Valdisotto and the slopes for skiing are located on both sides of the valley. There are divided into two ski resorts one on each side.
Livigno Mottolino, features the most difficult run in the area, 2 km long Monte della Neve, from Monte Sponda , and one of the most popular Italian snowparks also named Mottolino.
Carosello 3000 is located on the higher altitude as the resort name promises and touches the slopes of another area named happily… Cima Piazzi Happy Mountain.
The hard day of working out on the livigno slopes deserves relaxing rest at the end of the day.
The night life is well developed here with tempting bars, restaurants and spa facilities. Uttely tired can visit the mineral waters in neighbouring Bormio, but the rest will be happy with.. shopping.
After joining European Community there is no customs between the union countries, but Livigno was able to gain the ‘tax-free’ status with no Italian VAT on sold products.
This means the reduction of 20% , which draws also the people from neighbourhood, who can buy petrol much cheaper than in the rest of Italy.
